Sustainable Travel

Sustainable Travel with Witzob Catamaran Adventures

At Witzob Glamping Adventures, we prioritize sustainable travel practices to ensure your experience is both eco-friendly and unforgettable. Our catamaran, while a classic, is perfectly suited for navigating Belize’s shallow waters with its 18-inch draft, allowing us to get up close to some of the most beautiful spots in the region.

Sailing with the Wind

We strive to harness the natural power of the wind whenever possible, enhancing the sustainability of our trips. In Belize, the winds generally blow from the North or East, which shapes our routes to Rhythm Reef, Moho, and King Leweys. However, sailing into the wind can be challenging, especially if you’re prone to seasickness, so we recommend taking preventative measures before setting sail.

Navigating the Islands

Our journey usually begins with a smooth motor out to our base camp, with a travel time of 3 to 4 hours. We depart at 9 am, finding the best weather window for a calm start. The return leg is often easier, as the winds guide us directly back to Placencia.

For those seeking more adventure, we also offer trips to the Sapodilla Cays to the south. When the winds are favorable, it’s a comfortable sail all the way. However, if strong North winds are present on the return day and you have a flight to catch, we have a contingency plan in place. We can sail to Monkey River Village, where you can catch a fast boat back to Placencia, avoiding rough seas and ensuring you get back in time.

Weather and Adaptability

While we do our best to predict weather conditions and plan accordingly, it’s important to remember that nature is unpredictable. Our experienced crew is always prepared with alternative plans to ensure your safety and enjoyment, no matter what the weather brings.

Join us for a sustainable sailing adventure that connects you with the beauty of Belize, all while respecting the natural environment that makes it so special.
